Iceland Part 2: The Remaining 2 Museums, Continental Plates, Geysers, and Gullfoss Waterfall

Back to our Iceland trip!  Here are the kids on the morning of the second day of our museum walking tour.  This day takes us in the opposite direction, west, into the mainland area and away from the coast.

The sculpture museum is on the winter schedule, so it doesn't open for another couple of hours.  Luckily there are a bunch of sculptures outside, and you can peek in the windows to see the exhibit inside.

The last museum!  We made it.  After this, we head back to our place and get ready for our island tour.

The island tour is a big-bus tour to three popular spots, but the next few pictures are along the way.

The first stop is Pingvellir, where two continental plates meet above sea level.  The continental drift between the North American and Eurasian Plates can be clearly seen in the cracks or faults which traverse the region.

The area is part of the rift valley, the area between the plates.

Back on the bus and moving.

Our next stop is Geysir, which is just what it sounds like, one main Geysir that spouts every few minutes and a lot of bubbling hot springs and steam.

The last stop is the Gullfoss waterfall.  When we were there in November the entire area near the waterfall was coated in ice mist, which made it even prettier!

On our last day, we took another walking tour around Reykjavik, and a bunch more photos.

Not sure when we will visit again, but next time we will see the Aurora Borealis for sure!
